Possible grave of William John Payne - Kimball Bend Cemetery
Possible grave of William John Payne - Kimball Bend Cemetery
It is my belief, or wish, that this is the grave of William John Payne. It is one of the many unmarked graves that was relocated to Kimball Cemetery in 1945 when the dam for Lake Whitney was being constructed. This grave (#401) is directly next to William's son Alvarado (#400). However, when relocating to Kimball Cemetery, they were not reburied next to each other. Alvarado is in Sec 16 Lot 261 Sp A, where as (possibly) W.J. is reburied at Sec 3 Lot 369 Sp A.

    • From Rose Denson, July 2018 via Ancestry.com
"William John Payne was married to Nancy Jane Hamilton on June 16, 1860 in Hill County, Texas. They had ten children together, but only six are known: sons - Alvarado, Peyton Lee, and Jules Trater; daughters - Melissa Alice, Henrietta, and Sarah.
William John Payne was a rancher and also a Ferryman on the Brazos River in Kimball, Texas.

Family history has it that W.J. came to Texas with the US Army. He was stationed at Fort Graham in Hill County and when the fort closed in 1853, he decided to stay. When the Civil War began he served in the Confederate Army for four years with Captain Terry Carruthers Co., Young's Reg., Walker's Division. Co. H, 8th Reg., TX Infantry."
